Invite-only reviewer network — now accepting applications

Get paid for what you
already know.

You've spent years building systems that scale. You catch the bugs your colleagues miss. PulsePR pays you to do exactly that — for engineering teams who need a Staff-level eye on their most critical pull requests.

Engineers from Google, Netflix, Stripe, Cloudflare, Amazon, and Shopify are already in the network.

Everything you'd hate about
freelancing — we handle it.

Most engineers who have the skills to consult don't do it because the overhead is miserable. PulsePR eliminates all of that so you can focus on the part you're actually good at.

Review on your schedule

Set your availability week by week. Accept assignments that fit your bandwidth, decline the ones that don't. No minimum hours, no quotas — though consistent reviewers get first pick of assignments.

We handle the client side entirely

No prospecting, no proposals, no invoicing, no chasing payments. You receive an assignment with the PR diff. You review it. We handle everything before and after — including NDA management and billing.

Technical training and methodology

We provide structured training on our review framework, sample reviews from senior reviewers, and ongoing guidance to help you write sharper, more actionable feedback. You'll get better at your craft in the process.

Quality feedback on your reviews

PulsePR's engineering team reviews a sample of your completed reviews and gives you direct feedback. You'll know exactly how you're performing and where to sharpen your approach — not just whether customers are happy.

Legal and NDA coverage included

Every engagement is covered by PulsePR's bilateral NDA framework. You don't negotiate contracts, deal with legal teams, or worry about exposure. Your confidentiality obligations are clear, documented, and handled.

A network of engineers worth knowing

You're joining a small, vetted group of Staff+ engineers from elite engineering organizations. The network is deliberately kept small — which means every reviewer you'll interact with is genuinely exceptional.

Commission-based. Transparent.
No surprises.

We don't hide our business model. PulsePR takes a commission on every review completed through the platform — that's how we cover the cost of running everything you don't want to deal with.

Per review Reviewer earnings are tied directly to output — not hours or seats
Monthly Payouts processed within 15 days of each month's close
Disclosed Your exact rate and commission split are agreed during onboarding

What our commission covers

Client acquisition, sales, contracting, platform infrastructure, NDA management, billing, payment processing, dispute resolution, and quality assurance.

What you get in addition

Structured training on review methodology, architectural guidance, peer feedback on your completed reviews, and direct support from PulsePR's engineering team.

How earnings scale

More availability means more assignments. Priority reviews carry a premium. Reviewers with deeper or rarer expertise are matched to higher-value engagements over time.

On transparency: The exact commission split and your per-review rate are agreed during onboarding — we don't publish them publicly because they vary by seniority, domain, and demand. But we'll be direct about them before you sign anything. No bait-and-switch.

From application to
first paid review.

01

Apply

Submit your background, stack, and domain expertise. We review every application manually — no automated screening.

02

Vetted assessment

A blind review exercise on a complex PR with known issues, plus a systems design discussion. Typically completed within one week.

03

Onboarding

Profile setup, methodology training, practice review with feedback. Most reviewers complete onboarding in under a week. See the full guide →

04

Review and get paid

Accept assignments, submit reviews within the SLA window, and receive monthly payouts. We handle everything else.

The bar is deliberately high.
That's the whole point.

PulsePR's value to Customers depends entirely on the quality of our reviewer network. We keep the network small and selective — which also means the engineers in it are worth knowing.

Required

  • Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent seniority at a recognized engineering organization
  • Deep expertise in at least one primary stack (language + ecosystem)
  • Hands-on experience shipping and operating production systems at meaningful scale
  • Strong written communication — reviews are entirely written, no calls
  • Availability for at least 4 reviews per month

Strongly preferred

  • Background at a company known for engineering rigor (FAANG, top-tier SaaS, infrastructure companies)
  • Domain expertise in high-stakes areas: payments, distributed systems, security, data infrastructure, or reliability
  • Experience conducting or leading architectural reviews in a professional context
  • Familiarity with GitHub-native review workflows

Not a fit if…

  • Your expertise is primarily in areas we currently have no customer demand for — we'll be upfront about this during the assessment
  • You're looking for a guaranteed minimum number of assignments — volume depends on customer demand for your specific stack
  • You have an unresolvable conflict of interest with a significant portion of our customer base

The non-negotiables

  • Strict confidentiality — you will see code from companies you may know or compete with
  • Honesty about the limits of your expertise — we'd rather you decline an assignment than review outside your depth
  • Commitment to SLA windows once you accept an assignment
  • Alignment with our code of conduct and Reviewer Agreement

Questions from
prospective reviewers.

How much can I earn?

Earnings depend on your per-review rate (agreed at onboarding), the number of assignments you accept, and your mix of standard vs. priority reviews. Priority reviews carry a premium. Rates are set by seniority and domain — we're transparent about them before you commit to anything.

Do I need to disclose this to my employer?

That's your responsibility to check. Most standard employment agreements permit independent contractor work that doesn't compete with your employer. We strongly recommend reviewing your employment agreement before applying. We cannot advise you on this.

What does the assessment involve?

A blind review of a real (anonymized) PR with known architectural issues — you'll be evaluated on what you find, how you frame it, and the quality of your recommendations. Most applicants complete it in 2–3 hours. We follow up with a systems design conversation.

Can I decline assignments?

Yes. You're an independent contractor and you set your availability. You can decline any assignment that's outside your expertise or conflicts with your schedule. Persistent low acceptance rates may affect your assignment priority over time, but there's no penalty for a single decline.

What if I'm not confident about something in a PR?

Say so — that's actually the right answer. We train reviewers to be explicit about confidence levels. A clear "I'm not certain about this, but…" is far more valuable than a vague finding that sounds definitive. And if you're genuinely outside your depth, you can flag it and we'll reassign.

Will I be reviewing code from companies I know?

Possibly. If you recognize a Customer from context clues in the PR or you have a conflict of interest, you must disclose it immediately and decline the assignment. Your confidentiality obligations under the Reviewer Agreement cover all Customers regardless of whether you knew them previously.
